Foundry Virtual Tabletop
Foundry Virtual Tabletop is software for running tabletop role-playing games online, where a game master hosts the table and players join free through a web browser. It is sold once, with no subscription, by a small Spokane studio whose founder has publicly refused to build generative AI into it.
Why it earned its spot
The page opens on a painted hellscape of ruined arches and lava light, with the name set in small caps under a slim serif subtitle. It feels like the cover of a campaign book, not a software homepage. A glowing orange d20 stamped with an anvil sits between the Purchase and Demo buttons, and it comes back in the same spot at the foot of the page, so the whole scroll reads like a bound volume. Between the two, wide carousels show real maps, character sheets and dice from the software itself. Short centred paragraphs on a near-black ground let the screenshots do the persuading for an audience that already knows what a good table looks like.
