LALO
LALO makes tactical boots and athletic shoes for Special Operations units, first responders and civilians who train hard. The San Diego brand is named for co-founder Nathanael "Lalo" Roberti, a former Navy SEAL who started it in 2009 because the boots issued to his teams were not good enough.
Why it earned its spot
The homepage is built almost entirely from photographs — a boot suspended in black water beneath HYDRO RECON in wide grey capitals, then a tall coyote-tan boot and a black knit trainer floating on a mirrored dark floor, then location shots on chain, concrete and dry grass. Chrome stays minimal: a thin spaced wordmark, small-caps navigation, and one repeated device, a white outlined rectangle carrying each model’s name, which is the only label the grid ever uses. The palette comes from the goods themselves, tan and olive and gunmetal against black. Near the bottom the page turns white for a grid of boot reviews written by outsiders, a change of voice the dark half could not have carried.
