TallyChef
TallyChef is a set of free calculators for the numbers a restaurant runs on — plate cost, menu price, prime cost, tip splits — built for independent operators. Its argument is that formulas taught in any hospitality course shouldn't sit behind a subscription — no account, no export paywall.
Why it earned its spot
The homepage is one warm cream field with a single accent color, a hot orange held back for three things: the second half of the wordmark, the word “free” in the headline, and one button. Below that, fourteen tools sit in a plain three-column grid of white cards — an emoji, a bold name, one line on the arithmetic it does — so a manager can find “tip pool” in a couple of seconds. Nothing is illustrated and the type holds to two sizes. The restraint reads as confidence: this is a rack of tools, and the names are left to do the selling.
