Federal Student Aid
Federal Student Aid is the U.S. Department of Education office behind the FAFSA form, federal grants and student loan repayment. In December 2019 it absorbed StudentLoans.gov, FSAID.ed.gov and parts of NSLDS, ending years of borrowers bouncing between four differently branded federal sites.
Why it earned its spot
A deep slate-teal hero carries a narrow bold grotesque headline underlined by one short green rule — the only ornament above the fold. Along its base runs a flat vector frieze of students and graduates in caps and gold stoles, varied in skin tone, hair and headwear enough to read as deliberate rather than stock. The smart move is the row of four cards straddling the hero’s bottom edge — Considering School, In School, Parent, In Repayment — each captioned in the visitor’s own first person, so people sort themselves by situation rather than by program name. Everything else is plain blue link lists under small-caps headings, which is the right restraint for a page most people reach while worried.
