Quotev
Quotev is a community where mostly young writers publish stories, fanfiction and personality quizzes for each other. It started in 2008 as a quiz site called Quizzaz, and still shelves chapter-by-chapter novels beside 'which character are you' quizzes instead of splitting them apart.
Why it earned its spot
The homepage is a stack of side-scrolling shelves that alternate between stories and quizzes — Realistic, TV, Romance, Music, Fantasy — each row headed by a small grey label and a strip of filter chips. Chrome is kept to almost nothing: a near-black bar with a pill search field, a floating white category panel on the right, and a body that leaves all the colour to the covers. Those covers are made by members, so the grid is deliberately uneven, and the plainness of the frame is exactly what lets several hundred amateur thumbnails sit on one page without becoming noise.
